There are two types of campaigns (in general): Local SEO and National SEO when it comes to SEO. One isn’t better than the other because each addresses a different strategy.
Which campaign is appropriate becomes apparent when you understand the differences between Local SEO and National SEO.
Local SEO
As the name suggests, Local SEO is about presenting your business, at least to Internet users and search engines, as belonging to a specific geographical area and being a part of that local community.
Local SEO campaigns are better if your business has a physical location and you want to appeal to people within a particular city. For example, if you own a Greek restaurant located in Las Vegas, Nevada, you want your restaurant to be found when people search for “Greek restaurants in Las Vegas.” You’d also want to pop up when someone in Las Vegas runs a search for “Greek restaurants near me.”
Local SEO is about defining where your customers are and appealing to prospects in that market. Local SEO is often less expensive than a national campaign.
National SEO
National SEO, on the other hand, is for businesses that serve a national or global market.
For a national or international business, your location and the location of your customer don’t matter. Companies that sell online usually meet this description. If you’re not limited by geography, a National SEO campaign is more appropriate.
National campaigns are more complicated and more challenging to execute. They can take longer to produce results and are typically more expensive than a Local SEO campaign. The reality is, it’s more challenging to rank well for “insurance broker” vs. “insurance broker in Reno, NV.”
